Vikings FTW

Hey everyone, my name is Justin and I'm the newest addition to the Hawt. Fred and Will have been doing an awesome job managing the blog on their own, but they wanted to post more frequently, so I was recruited. Lets get started.

About a month ago, Will wrote about Noisia's new album Split The Atom, but he somehow left out the best song. Alpha Centauri has been on beatport's top downloads list for a while now. The intro's kind of long but the track is great.

Alpha Centauri - Noisia

Lets do some math. Did you know that House #84 + Money to Blow = House of Money? Yup, its a mash-up. I think that this song is better than its individual parts. 4 pretty decent artists too: The Bloody Beetroots, Birdman, Lil Wayne and Drake. Can anyone explain to me how you go from Degrassi to rap?

House of Money - DJ Stroke (Money to Blow Remix)

Finally, I want to introduce you to Alex Calver. Hes a little known artist who goes under the name Calvertron. Hes from the UK and it seems like hes right on the cusp of blowing up on the house scene. Here are a few of his tunes for you to enjoy.

Doo Doo - Calvertron (Original Mix)

Dwarf Porn - Calvertron (Original Mix)

Where Is It? - Blatta & Inesha ft. Gigi Barocco (Calvertron Remix)

The title doesn't really have anything to do with the post, but I thought it was important to mention that the Minnesota Vikings are the greatest franchise in NFL history.

Bring out the GANGSTA SHIT!

Ok, so most of you who read this blog know that both of us writers are white as can be. Well let me tell you a little story about us pale people:

For the past 14 hours, I've had a lot of boring things to do. 6 hours straight of school and then 8 hours of work. That really sucked (even though I'm pretty sure the few of you actually reading this don't give a f@c!<). Well after work, me and a coworker decided to go to a depanneur, buy a decent amount of cheap beer and chug it down before the damn bus arrived. Well, it turns out that after having drank a little, us white people are really into loud rap. (Maybe it's just for me, but I'm pretty sure this is quite widespread). Noticing this particular phenomenon, I decided to pass on a few of the songs I was playing insanely loud through my tiny iPod earphones on the bus (and yes, I pissed off a couple of old people). Hope you enjoy these sober as much as I'm enjoying them now.

Starry Eyed (Rap Remix) - Ellie Goulding

That Tree - Snoop Dogg (ft. KiD CuDi) (Star Guitar Remix)

A Juicy Intro - The XX vs Notorious B.I.G. (Ha! Yes Mash-Up)

Twerkshop - I Can Go Thug (Rusko Vs. Ludacris)

Time to go pass out!

GAH. Almost summer.

Alright soooooo. I have a few things for you guys. First I’d like to say that this summer will be pretty hot. For example, Tiesto is coming on July 18th. We don’t have any information yet like where it is and such but check this facebook event here and invite your friends!

DJ solo sent me his new track that is pretty sick. Here is what he wrote in his email:

“Your blog is real dope...one of my homies recently introduced me to it. Bigup!! My name's DJ SOLO, I'm part of the Chicago dubstep crew Fresh Kid, as well as the LA based hip-hop crew Soul Assassins (Cypress Hill, House of Pain).

This is an original song I wrote over Doctor P's "Rasputin's Gold" called Chicago Mobster Dance. This is not an official collaboration between me and Doctor P, however I'm a huge fan of his music and this was done in tribute, not only to a dope producer, but someone who inspired me to take hip-hop in a new direction. I am currently working on a mixtape that will feature many of my original bootlegs and remixes, as well as more DJ SOLO on the microphone! Protect your neck!!!”

See? Our blog is fucking dope. Haha. Here is the soundcloud embed track (it’s not available for download yet!). Listen to it, it’s worth it.

Chicago Mobster Dance (feat. DJ SOLO) - Doctor P by DJ SOLO

I really love the lyrics and the track (how it’s edited). It sounds sick and I love the idea of rap over dubstep tracks. CHICAGO MOBSTER. Cheers. I’ll keep you guys updated with his new tracks and such (if he sends them to me!! haha). Check his website for more cookies! www.djsoloisawesome.com

This month’s top5 is below! (more like “to start off the summer top5”)

I came across a new song from Rusko the other day while listening to some dubstep mix and I got to admit it’s pretty sick. It sounds like… you know… WOBBLE WOBBLE PEW PEW PEW BOOM BOOM. Yeah that’s right. See for yourself, it’s a great track to start off the summer.

Rusko – Do You Wanna Have a Party

And a remix from Doctor P could help too.

12th Planet & Juakali - Reasons (Doctor P Remix)

Of course I have more than just dubstep for you guys this week! I have other tracks to make you party this summer. These two guys are some big bangers and they’re really fun.

Will Bailey - Hit The Club (Sidney Samson Remix)

Larry Tee Feat. Roxy Cottontail - Let's Make Nasty (Afrojack Remix)

I’m trying something new, posting trance music, let’s see how long it lasts on mediafire. This is one of my favorite trance track at the moment.

Skytech - Comet

Indie Remixes

Considering I am completely broke (and in debt), I can't really afford to go out to shows like Bal en Blanc (sad sad moments). This means that while my friends are going out to party, I'm stuck here at home trying to find music for you guys. To make this worse, I didn't even find this band; my sister did. Ok, don't take this wrong...we all know that sisters listen to terrible music but somehow she managed to push me towards this pretty sweet group.

They're called the Two Door Cinema Club. A trio from northern ireland that play some really jumpy and very happy indie. They almost made me want to get up and dance...until i realized again how sad my life is for the moment. Now I listened to their new album: Tourist History and i thought it was pretty cool. Almost immediately after (yes, I spend that much time on my computer), I found an awesome remix of theirs. I kept on searching until i found the following five:

Undercover Martyn Flexin' It - Two Door Cinema Club (Passion Pit Remix)

What You Know - Two Door Cinema Club (Redlight Remix)

Something Good Can Work - Two Door Cinema Club (The Twelves Remix) (Personal Favorite)

A Cholo You Know - Down AKA Kilo vs. Two Door Cinema Club (The White Panda Mash-Up)

The Angler - Panama Kings (Two Door Cinema Club Remix)

Bonus track (also an indie remix):

Dull Life - Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Professor Purple Remix)

P.S. This music is only for happy people. It has nothing to do with our usual heavy electro and D&B
Enjoy anyways!

BAL EN BLANC 16

Long story short, my friend got sick and gave me his ticket to go to this year’s Bal en blanc at Palais des Congrès de Montréal. And I’ve got to say, thanks bud’, it was amazing.

There was two rooms, one for House and the other for Trance (they called that room Tech or something). Both rooms had massive line-ups and were both packed. I personally preferred the Trance room , but I still have to say David Guetta and LMFAO rocked the place in the house room. Trance just has this extra feel during a rave… it’s more like… “epic” (I hate that word, but whatever). And the bass was sick.

The lighting was fawking amazing in both room. The House room had this big screens that lit a BIG surface (not projectors), they were sick (check some youtube videos if you really want to see it). The Trance room had some insanely big projectors that projected sweet effects on the front wall that was made of some “cubicles” and a bigger place (about 2 cubicles) for the DJ. There was also some people dancing in separate cubicles and 2 big screens showing the DJ from the back, the people dancing or simply the crowd going nuts. ‘T WAS AMAZING. Sooooo on to the line-ups… and of course, comments AND A LITTLE SURPRISE!

House Room

21:00-23:30 Etienne Ozborne

I didn’t really listen a lot to this guy (maybe 30ish minutes), but from what I heard, he was doing great at warming up the crowd.

23:30-1:00 Cesar “Bass” Romero

I heard a little bit more of this guy (while waiting for LMFAO actually… we wanted to be in the first row, and we were!). He played house music and mixed his songs with a lot of ease; his transitions were smooth and he only played the best tracks out there, the crowd had a lot of fun.

1:00-2:00 LMFAO

LMFAO was really awesome, they were singing and dancing and had a DJ play their stuff in the back. They made the first couple rows wet with some Grey Goose and some Champagne and drank some live. They were extremely entertaining and knew what they were doing. What really sucks though is that they only played for an hour… Oh well!

2:00-5:00 David Guetta

I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t listen to much of his set, just the beginning and the ending (maybe 30 minutes each). He was really good and made the crowd go totally nuts at least 10 times while I was there. He played tracks from his latest album as well as some more electroish/dutch songs. I enjoyed his set and so did a lot of people (that’s what they told me!).

5:00-7:00 Kaskade

I maybe listened 30 minutes of Kaskade and then I was starting to fall asleep. I’m not saying he’s not a great DJ, but his first 30 minutes were filled with low intensity tracks and I was losing energy staying there. His transitions were smooth and his songs were good. A funny thing happened though; while I was going to the Trance room with my friend, the speakers in the House room shut down and Kaskade had to… well… wait. Funny. I heard the rest was off the hook though!

7:00-9:30 Ana Paula

I didn’t listen to her at all so I cannot really comment much, but the House room was still pretty packed so I guess she was pretty good!

9:30-12:00 David Morales

I didn’t listen to him either! But my guess was that he wasn’t bad either! Every DJ was good yesterday.

TRANCE ROOM

9:00-0:00 Wizz and Insomnia (Tag Team)

I listened a good hour and a half to these guys and they were really good! They were warming the crowd in a certain way… hmmm… well the crowd didn’t need a warm up, so they just went all out I guess. Great set!

0:00-1:30 Infected Mushrooms

HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AMAZING. The band really messed people up and what they play is just fucked. It’s some sort of Hard Tech music. It’s really fast and really crazy, it was great for the event! I really enjoyed it and the crowd too. Everybody just jumped around and fist pumped, woot woot.

1:30-4:00 Sander Van Doorn

I got to listen to a big part of his set and it was really fun. Good build ups, transitions, tracks… everything! He delivered, really. The beat went on and on and on and on and it was great.

4:00-7:00 Ferry Corsten

My favorite of the night. He. Was. Insane. What he plays is progressive, but as soon as he gets into it, it’s one drop after another and a lot of noise effects to build up the hype and make people go nuts. I’ve never seen someone do a performance better than the one he did yesterday morning! He made me love trance even more. I listened to his latest album Once Upon a Night and it’s really neat! You should listen to it. Oh, and he did a mistake once and I heard it, but it’s barely audible. He just forgot to switch his crossfader back to one track only, so when he was cueing his track, we heard it. Hahaha.

7:00-10:00 Markus Schulz

This guy was amazing as well and I’m sad I had no energy to stay for more than around an hour for him! He played Trance like Ferry, but a little more glitchy, which made it less epic, but more messed up. Great DJ… super great DJ!

10:00-12:00 Sied Van Riel

I’ll let you guess from my previous paragraph… YESS. I MISSED THIS GUY TOO! I was almost home at this point of the night/day/morning/whatever. I’ll take another educated guess… he was good! Everybody did great so I think he did the same. I’ll be able to tell you after listening to his live set.

Since I’m an amazing person, I didn't bring anything for pictures or videos, but MoonOne was awesome and did a video of the night! By the way that rabbit a the start was just plain cool.

It was an insane night and it is totally worth the price (I know, I didn’t pay, shut up), I’m going back next year and I hope all my friends will too. Great music, great hype, great place. Love Bal en Blanc.

And you Trance lovers will love me. I found the whole Trance part of Bal en Blanc recorded in pretty high quality (perfect quality for big mixes). Here are the links and the tracklists (at the end of the post) that I could find. Some tracks are missing but whatever. Under each name is just different links to the SAME mix, just click any (MEGAUPLOAD IS THE FASTEST HOST).
